A simple soap/shampoo recipe using glycerol byproduct
This works with glycerol byproduct made using NaOH as the biodiesel catalyst.
For every 1 litre of de-meth'd glycerol, make up a solution of 30g NaOH in 100 ml of water.
Heat the glycerol to 75C
Pour the NaOH solution in slowly, stirring all the time.
Gradually bring up the heat, not enough to make the mix foam up.
Keep stirring and after 5 or 10 minutes the mix will start to curdle.
Drop a sample on a cold plate and see if it solidifies.
If yes, pour the liquid into soap moulds - I use margarine tubs.
When set, cut into bars and leave for a few weeks to cure, then use it as soap / shampoo.
If you want liquid soap, process with KOH and use KOH to make the solution.
